My first post... Oh, the pressure!
Who I am:
I am a high school math teacher living in a small Indiana town with my husband and two kids. My daughter is in kindergarten and my son is two.
How this all started:
About a year ago, I was first introduced to the 100 Days of Real Food website, then Facebook page, then cookbook. While it may sound cliche, it really was a wake up call. Many of the foods and habits I thought were healthy were far from it! I knew NOTHING about reading labels, I avoided time in the kitchen and I now realize, my health was paying for it.
While I still haven't fully transitioned my family's eating habits to where I would like them, I am on my way...
My challenge:
One of the challenges I have faced in buying better food has been my husband's tight wallet. It is hard for him to look at two gallons of milk, one for $4 and one for $7 and pick the expensive one. It goes against his very nature.
That is where this blog comes in. I am math-y and I have the summer off. I am using some of this time to figure out how I can maximize my budget and get the best quality food I can!
My Plan:
There are three main places that I shop, Meijer, Payless (a Kroger grocery store) and our new Fresh Thyme! As I go about my normal grocery shopping, I plan to actually document the prices for things at each place. Eventually, I will know which items to buy at each store, saving money and allowing room in the budget for better food. I will also be able to spot a good deal and stock up when possible.
So, I have just 6 weeks of school left. Then my project begins!
